Matters arising on #BringBackOurGirls: #BringBackOurPeace: by Jameel Muhammad

I stumble upon this well crafted mind boggling masterpiece on my friends FACEBOOK wall and it is worthy of sharing. Read on:  "Are Chibok girls more red-blooded than Maiduguri or Bama girls?", a friend asked me.  No, they are not. My friend is surprised as well  as suspicious of the global campaign, #Bring BackOurGirls, being forced down the already  choking throats of global diplomacy. My friend is angry that the world has chosen to turn deaf  ears as well as blind eyes to the abductions of  girls from Maiduguri, Bama, etc, as well as the  slaughter and massacre of school children and  other citizens with the attendant destructions of  properties and environment of a helpless citizenry. My friend thinks that the present drive  of our global diplomacy is hinged on a platform  built from George Orwell's "...some animals are  more equal than others". What makes Chibok girls thick? What makes  them more red-blooded? Why the sudden global  outrage? Is it #BringBackO

Say Goodbye  Nigeria: Give Us Oduduwa Or Let  Us Die – Femi Fani-Kayode  “If they ever tell my story let them say I walked with giants, men rise and fall like the Winter wheat but these names will never die… Let them say I lived in the time of Hector, tamer of horses…let them say I lived in the time of Achilles”- the Iliyad, Homer. The words of Odysseus in Homer’s epic and ancient poem titled ”The Iliyad” have always moved me. Those words are deep and profound: they stir my soul and rekindle my spirit. They speak of and reflect the essence of Ancient Greece with its rich and exciting history, its extraordinary heroes and heroines and its all-powerful and all-knowing gods, titans and immortals. How I wish that I could conjure up such great and powerful words about the history of my nation Nigeria and her heroes past. How I wish that the Nigerian people had their own Odysseus’ , Achilles’, Agamemnons and Hectors. How I wish they had their own ancient poets and great thinkers like Socrate

At the backdrop of two significant occurrences that took place today in Borno State where community Vigilante Group armed with bows and arrows, dane guns and most importantly COURAGE AND SPIRIT OF SELF DEFENCE dislodged and repelled attack by the dreaded BH killing over 200 captured over 10 terrorists, seized over 80 motorcycles, an Armored Personnel Carrier and 2 Hilux pick-up military vehicles. T he display of anger and frustration by courageous frontline-soldiers of the Nigeria Army against their fat-bellied Generals sums up to 2 things that can be done to avert the looming clear and present danger towards the near end of our current historical tunnel. The unique courageous affront against the dreaded BH by the villagers recorded the most victorious battle against the scourge. This spirit of of Self-Defence by by the dwellers of the community yielded most fruitful result than the Trillions of Naira expended on the Security Forces mostly gulped by the In-Active-Fat-Bellied-Corrupt-C

The internet (World Wide Web) came into widespread use in the mid 1990s. Its main impact on politics is probably to increase transparency in the process of governance. Equally the internet gives a cheap and easy medium to extreme parties, conspiracy theorists, terrorists and pedophiles;  It offers a great platform to reach millions of people with amazing targeting possibilities including age, gender, interest and behavioral targets. As always, politicians are tempted to blame the media for its role in exposing their darker sides, some have even attempted to impose controls on the use of the internet in recent times. The internet gained its prominence in Nigeria with the advent of the GSM cellular phones in the early 2000s. This was the landmark achievement of the former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s regime as a civilian president. Since then the GSM has proved to be by far the most accepted social commodity in the history of the country, with its far reaching services widely embraced b

Keeping Up With The Jonathans – Japheth. J, Omojuwa

When people suddenly find themselves in such latter position (being the wife of Nigeria’s 1 citizen) , prepared or unprepared, anywhere in the world, they are taken through a crash programme in finishing and poise and made to realise that being the wife of an important man comes with serious responsibilities lest they sabotage the same person that they should be supporting.  If Dame Patience went through such re-orientation, the course was incomplete.” The above excerpt was Dr. Reuben Abati’s assessment of Nigeria’s so-called first lady, Patience Jonathan, in August 2010. Almost four years on, despite having the opportunity to have the same Abati put her “through a crash programme in finishing and poise,” Mrs Jonathan has remained consistent with her lack of poise and class. With the same Abati an aide to her husband, President Goodluck Jonathan, Patience would rather probably engage the talents of the same Abati in putting up a press statement excusing her now predictable lack of pois
